Explore South Pond: Bat Safari and Family Day for MADHurst

Looking for a way to connect with nature and enjoy some family-friendly fun? Join us at South Pond for two exciting events as part of MADHurst’s lineup! These activities are designed to bring the community together and highlight the natural beauty and wildlife of our beloved pond.

Bat Safari – Friday 15th August

Meet by the wooden bridge at South Pond from 7:45 PM, starting at 8:00 PM and finishing around 9:30 PM.

Join us for a thrilling Bat Safari where we will embark on an adventure to catch a glimpse of the various bat species that inhabit the area around South Pond. Instructed by our guest expert, you’ll be given the opportunity to use a bat detector which converts the high-frequency ultrasonic calls of bats into audible sounds that we can hear. If you’d like to know more about British bats and how you can help them, here is a useful YouTube video to get you started.

Highlights of the Bat Safari:

  • Expert Guidance: An expert will lead the safari, providing insights into the fascinating world of bats.
  • Bat Detectors: We’ll use specialised bat detectors to identify and listen to the calls of various bat species, including Daubenton’s, Serotine, Pipistrelle, and Soprano Pipistrelle.
  • Educational Experience: Learn how to identify different bat species and understand their behaviors and habitats.

Whether you’re a seasoned wildlife enthusiast or just curious about bats, this event promises to be both educational and awe-inspiring. Don’t forget to bring a flashlight and wear comfortable clothing!
