It was a mixed weekend for us at South Pond. Our new interpretation boards were unveiled, which was something to celebrate. But damage to the saplings planted along the Jubilee Path was upsetting and frustrating.
Many of the stakes put in place to support our young saplings were removed; some thrown well out of reach and others missing entirely. Worse, people had trampled over the young trees in order to dump garden waste. It was very disappointing to see. We encourage people to dispose of garden waste responsibly.
The main task was Hemlock removal, to improve safety, this poisonous plant grows along the Jubilee Path and is toxic. Please avoid touching it.
We also spent time locating saplings, clearing away the dumped waste, re-staking and tying the young trees back in. We hope they will survive.
