What Can I Do To Help?
The South Pond Group is always keen to have more volunteers to help look after South Pond and Jubilee Footpath and there is something for everyone regardless of how active or experienced you are.
We’re currently looking for someone to help support our community programme in the local area of Midhurst. Please click here for more details.
Website Maintenance
Keeping our website up-to-date is important in keeping it relevant and to do so, we need people with some experience to help do this. The website can be edited from home when it’s convenient for you and no special software is required. Volunteers are given specific pages to maintain so that the workload is easily manageable and e-mail support is available.
Social Media
At present South Pond Group currently features on Facebook and Instagram but we need more help in keeping these up to date and relevant to local people. We, therefore, seek local volunteers that visit the pond regularly to provide updates and pictures.
Writing Articles
Each month we produce a newsletter that features on the two noticeboards at the South Pond and Jubilee Path and also on the Community Noticeboard in our local Tesco Express store. We would like someone to write these newsletters, and/or articles for them which could also feature on our website, Facebook and Instagram pages.
Research
If you enjoy using a library or the internet, this could be ideal for you. Spend some time, to suit you, finding out more about the history of the pond, its relationship with the local community, famous visitors, or about aspects of the wildlife or water management. This information can then be presented on our website and could feature in our newsletters.
Photography
We are keen to have a volunteer to attend activities to take photos of the work we are doing and some fixed-point photography to create a pictorial timeline of South Pond for use on our website and/or social media. We are happy to accredit photographers for any images published.
Carrying Out Wildlife Surveys
This can take as much or as little time as you want to spend. Surveys can be on a species or group of species that interest you. If you have some knowledge, that would be great, but it is also a great chance to learn more about identifying wildlife. We will help you to build any expertise required.
Conservation Workers
During the year we work on particular tasks down Jubilee Path and around the pond. These tasks include removal of invasive species (especially Himalayan Balsam), litter picking, planting wildflowers, woodland management etc. It’s good exercise great fun, and we usually provide coffee and cake free of charge. Light or heavier tasks are available.
Notice Board Manager
We have two notice boards on site that are used to display our monthly newsletter and activity schedule and we simply need someone to print and display these each month. A copy of each is also displayed in our local Tesco Express store.
Group Members
If you have views about the pond and its management, there is a chance for you to come along to one of our core strategy group meetings that sets the direction for all aspects of our work. You can then contribute directly to this important work for the local community.
If you feel that you are able to contribute to the group in any way, please do get in touch by emailing southpondgroup@gmail.com or send us a message via Facebook.
